I get really bad panic attacks...

Posted in Group:

i started getting really bad panic attacks after a stressful situation i was in. it feels like i need to do something that very moment to solve a particular problem,, my last panic attack came as a result of believing that God was going to take my life soon and i needed to travel to a place where i can get my tattoo removed in order to get into heaven..

i am currently on anti-psychotic medication (12mg of Invega) and anti-depressants (Wellbutrin 300mg and Effexor 75mg)

my panic attacks seem to pass by faster and remain controllable when i am with someone but i am afraid they go out of control when i am alone. i was found ready to jump off a balcony a couple of times and once sitting on the floor in a corner with my back against the wall and hugging my bent knees crying..

any advice what to do to break the cycle once i start feeling a panic attack coming, they are coming approximately once a week and i worry that one would cause a relapse..

i have massive anxiety and panic attacks.. i start crying and wanting to scream.. finding myself wanting to die- the more you focus on them the worse seem to be.. my advice would be once you feel them come on find anything you love or amazing memory you hold onto and close your eyes breath slow and think this is going to pass.. and picture that place that means the most to you.. it helps me a little so i hope maybe in some way it helps you-

I feel your pain!! I have had panic attacks since before gradeschool. I am in my late 40's now and find that my fear of having an attack has increased with age. When I panic, the symptoms I immediately recognize are a pounding heart, a choking sensation, sweating, and numbness in my arms and legs. Unfortunately, My body also responds by emptying my bowels which has become THE most concerning part of panic for me. Although I have no medical degree, I would question the large amount of Wellbutrin you are using! Wellbutrin is known to cause very vivid dreams and at that dosage, I would guess some of the suicidal ideation could be a side effect. I tried that medication for a very short time and chose to move on after seeing lime-green frogs attacking me!! Effexor XR has worked the best of all the antidepressants I've been on (A LOT!), but I am on a high dosage (300mg a day) and I also use Xanax for immediate relief when needed. It seems to me that Panic Disorder is a chronic condition--there are times when it seems to have disappeared and then suddenly appears again with incredible power!! During this type of relapse, I have had to use the Xanax up to 3 times a day. Then when I feel in control again, I am able to decrease and I currently use one at night to help me sleep. When I truly feel ready, I will begin to decrease the Effexor--THAT is a very scary thought but I really want to reach that point. So I would suggest you discuss your medications with your MD. DO NOT stop taking them all at once 'cause it will make matters worse! If you have not already done so, you might want to try cognitive/behavioral counseling as well. I return to my therapist whenever the Panic takes over because I recognize that there is something I am forgetting to do that will help me cope. Three visits is all it takes! Lots of us are out here living with it, you can do it too!!
